#24: Loving People by Halves – Jane Austen

Jane Austen was pretty brilliant. Her books are apparently still relevant in my life. Last month I was talking to a friend about whether she would rather date a Mr. Darcy or a Mr. Bingley at this point in her life. Two weeks ago I was talking about my favorite books with a guy at a bar and he quoted the first line of Pride & Prejudice. This was just a little too much coincidence, so I decided to see if she had any pearls of wisdom for this project. This was one of the best ones.

Because I am of a similar opinion. It is best to love your friends with your whole heart. If you aren’t you are cheating both of you: the friend who maybe cares more for you and yourself for draining your energy on a person who you cannot give your whole heart to.

So, do everything with your whole self, including loving your friends. Your life will be all the better for it.

Speaking of friends, I know I get to see some friends who live scattered across the country this weekend at BlogHer 13. Will I be seeing you there?
